Preserve empty fields and reject unknown escapes or a trailing backslash before returning any result.
An escaped separator is part of the data. PipeOrchard brings a small field parser into a Windows AI coding workspace where empty fields and incomplete input can be examined before accepting a change.
def split_fields(text):
fields, escaped = [""], False
for char in text:
if escaped:
if char not in "|\\": raise ValueError("unknown escape")
fields[-1] += char
escaped = False
elif char == "\\": escaped = True
elif char == "|": fields.append("")
else: fields[-1] += char
if escaped: raise ValueError("trailing escape")
return fieldsPreserve empty fields and reject unknown escapes or a trailing backslash before returning any result.
Compare actual behavior with the expected result. If a check fails, investigate it before applying more changes.

return fieldsPipeOrchard brings parser maintenance into a Windows AI coding workspace where you can discuss the language your application actually accepts. Open the project and show representative input before asking for edits. A useful request names the intended behavior for incomplete or ambiguous text as clearly as it names the normal result.
Escaped field separators provide one example. Ask the connected model to examine a parser that distinguishes a literal separator from a field boundary. Include empty fields, a literal backslash and a trailing escape in the discussion. These fixtures give the proposed change something concrete to answer without turning the homepage into a parser tutorial.
Review how errors travel from the parser to its caller. Rejecting bad input may be correct, but the surrounding application still needs to show a useful outcome and avoid treating partial data as complete. Run the existing checks plus the fixtures that motivated the change, and inspect returned fields exactly rather than comparing only their count.
For assistance, connect a supported OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic endpoint and provide credentials as required. An uncensored AI model is an option when offered by that endpoint. Model policies, context limits and tool capabilities still depend on the configured service; your input contract determines whether the resulting code is suitable.
Distinguish the actual input characters from their representation in source code or a message. Include the expected parsed fields. Ask the model to restate the fixture before editing so an escaping misunderstanding does not become the basis of the patch.
Decide what your input format promises. If incomplete escaping is invalid, request explicit rejection and inspect how the caller handles it. Silent retention may make malformed input look successful and should not be introduced merely to avoid an error.
Empty fields can carry position or meaning in a record. A rewrite that drops them may shift subsequent values while still returning plausible data. Compare exact outputs for leading, repeated and trailing separators when those cases belong to your format.
Replace real records with small synthetic strings that preserve the failure. Review tool and endpoint destinations: a separately running local model server covers inference, not necessarily every connected tool used to inspect or execute the project.
